iPad 3 Rumored A6 Processor to Be Dual-Core, Not Quad-Core as Hoped?

Today, more details about the upcoming iPad 3 emerged, when Fix iPhones showed us the supposed back of the iPad 3. In the report, it was noted that the iPad 3 was to have an updated camera, larger battery, and new screen.

To add to the rumors earlier, The Verge has come out with a new report, saying that the iPad 3′s rumored A6 processor will be dual-core, and not quad-core as people have hoped…

We’re also told that the A6 CPU the iPad 3 is likely to sport will include a significantly more powerful GPU

Protestors to Stage Rally in Front of Grand Central Apple Store Tomorrow

It’s been nearly three weeks since the New York Times published its now infamous report on the poor working conditions of overseas manufacturers, and Apple is still feeling the ripple effects. The iPhone-makers were named exclusively in the lengthy article regarding their poor efforts to correct the growing labor problems in China.

In response to the allegations, activists setup an online petition calling for Apple to release a “worker protection strategy.” And not only has the petition collected more than 250,000 electronic signatures, but the activists are about to take their protest to the next level…

BGR is reporting that representatives from both Change.org and SomeOfUs will join protesters tomorrow at 10am in front of Apple’s recently-built Grand Central terminal retail store to deliver the signed petition to the company.

Here’s the combined press release from the two organizations:

“APPLE CUSTOMERS TO DELIVER 250,000 PETITION SIGNATURES TO GRAND CENTRAL APPLE STORE IN GLOBAL ACTION AGAINST WORKER ABUSE

Apple users will deliver a quarter million petition signatures to Apple in global headquarters including Washington, DC, NYC, San Francisco, London, Sydney, and Bangalore.

iOS 5.0.1 Bug Lets Anyone Make FaceTime Calls On Your iPhone, Even With Security Settings

Canadian tech blogger Ade Barkah has discovered a new security loophole in Apple’s most recent iOS update, iOS 5.0.1. It involves FaceTime, and lets anyone make a call out, even with the highest security settings in place.

The loophole has been confirmed to work on both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, and hopefully is addressed by Apple soon. Barkah details the bug on his blog…

We’re able to trick Voice Control to enumerate through the private address book and make live FaceTime video calls on a locked iPhone 4, even with Voice Dial specifically disabled in the settings.

Barkah set his iPhone 4 to the highest security settings with a passcode, and also turned off Voice Control. Even with the security settings in place, he could still make a call through the Emergency Call page, sending in commands through Voice Control, without having to type in his password. Luckily, actual voice calls didn’t go through, but rather he could look through contacts and even see contacts’ pictures. FaceTime calls did go through, however.

Now Voice Control leaks that I have two numbers for Lisa Klein: her

Foxconn Corporate Servers Hacked, Classified Information Compromised

Foxconn, Apple’s largest manufacturing partner, has been back in the media spotlight over the last few weeks. Last month, the New York Times pointed to the company in its report on the poor working conditions in Chinese factories.

Foxconn has since been the target of activists and protestors, but now it’s found itself in the sights of a different breed. It seems that the world’s largest component manufacturer has been hacked by a new group called Swagg Security…

As 9to5Mac tells it, Swagg Security, or Swaggsec, infiltrated Foxconn’s corporate servers yesterday, stealing an enormous amount of classified information. The group of hackers uncovered email usernames and passwords, including that of CEO Terry Gou, and other Intranet login info.

But they didn’t just take the data, they uploaded it. A link to a torrent file on The Pirate Bay was posted to Swaggsec’s Twitter account yesterday along with this message:

“Users of Cyberspace,

So Foxconn thinks they got ‘em some swagger because they work with the Big Boys from Intel, Microsoft, IBM, and Apple? Fool, you don’t know what swagger is. They say you got your employees all worked up, committing suicide ‘n stuff. They say you hire chinese workers ’cause you think the taiwanese are elite. We got somethin’ served up good…real good. Your not gonna’ know what hit you by the time you finish this release. Your company gonna’ crumble, and you deserve it.”

The note goes on to discuss the Foxconn attack, which appears to be in response to the recent poor labor reports. Apparently the information Swaggsec stole, and published, contains enough data to log into Foxconn’s client system and place a manufacturing order. Wow.

Given the fact that Swaggsec’s Twitter account was created just a few days ago, we imagine this isn’t the last we’ve heard from them.

It’s just a shame there wasn’t any iPhone 5 information in the leaked data.

More Evidence That iPad 3 Production is in Full Swing

It seems like it’s been raining iPad 3 rumors over the past couple of days. Yesterday we heard that the upcoming tablet may not include the quad-core processor we’ve been anticipating. And we also saw a purported image of the slate’s backing.

Then last night, both 9to5Mac and Apple.pro posted photos of what they claim to be next-generation iPad components. The pictures show both the front and the back of the tablet’s shell, as well as what appears to be Smart Cover magnets…

TweetLine: Use Siri to Pull Up Tweets From Your Twitter Timeline

When iOS 5 launched last Fall, we figured that the Notification Center would become the new hot bed for jailbreak tweaks. But it seems like Siri has also become a popular choice among developers.

The latest package to surface in Cydia that adds functionality to the digital assistant is TweetLine. The tweak allows you to use Siri to call up the 5 most recent tweets from your Twitter timeline…

Installing TweetLine is as easy as downloading it from Cydia and watching your device re-spring. Once installed, you can access the tweak by calling up Siri and saying “timeline.” This will bring up a small window in Siri’s UI showing you tweets from your Twitter account.

In all honesty, TweetLine might come in handy when you want to quickly glance at your timeline, but that’s about it. Tweets are shown in plain text, without hyperlinks, so there’s no way to respond or launch a Twitter client from within Siri. I’ve also noticed that sometimes it takes a minute or two to load the timeline, which is another turn off.

Combine this, though, with another tweak like AssistantExtensions, and you might have a suitable Siri-Twitter solution until something better comes along. Hey, at least it’s free. If you’re interested, you can find TweetLine on the ModyMyi repo in Cydia.

What do you think of TweetLine?

Apple stock reaching new heights, now worth more than Google and Microsoft combined

It sure is a good time to be an Apple investor. After reaching new records a couple weeks ago, the stock hasn’t stopped going up ever since. AAPL is currently trading at about $495, which is an absolute record.

As 9to5Mac notes, at its current $460 billion market capitalization, Apple is worth more than 10% of all NASDAQ combined. More impressive maybe is that Apple is worth 52 times RIM’s value, more than 5 times Amazon’s, more than twice the value of Google, and almost double the size of Microsoft. Heck, Apple is worth more than Google and Microsoft combined!

I said it before and I’ll say it again, although the stock is expensive, it’s still a very good time to buy Apple.

i4Siri: a promising 3rd party Siri server

Ever since the possibility of a Siri Proxy server was first unveiled, it’s been all the rage. The promise of being able to run Siri on older devices? Count me and about a million other people in.

Now you can hardly look around without seeing some blurb about a 3rd party Siri server, and although security (or lack thereof) is still a big concern, it’s apparently not concerning enough to keep the masses of pre-iPhone 4S owners away.

Andrew Sheridan, one of the primary folks behind the i4Siri project reached out to me about a month ago asking me to try his Siri server. Here are some of the results of that trial…

To accomplish this feat, i4Siri uses Spire
