Cook hints at wanting to settle in global legal battles

Apple CEO Tim Cook would prefer to settle in the numerous lawsuits the company is involved in worldwide, the company's Q2 results call has revealed. During a Q&A session, Cook was asked if there was a point at which Apple would feel it better to settle. "I've always hated litigation and will continue to hate it," the CEO replied. He suggested that he only wants other companies to "make their own stuff," and that he would "highly prefer" to settle instead of fight court battles."It's important that Apple not become the inventor for the world," said Cook. The statement was a reference to the fact that a bulk of the lawsuits filed by or against Apple in recent times have involved patents. Most or all of these, in turn, have involved different facets of Google's Android platform.

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs is known to have considered Android "stolen," and vowed to "destroy" it. Cook, though, is believed to be more moderate than his predecessor, more concerned with practical considerations about Apple's competitive advantages and marketshare.
