Samsung may bring more than just a third-generation Galaxy phone to its upcoming May 3 event. As asserted by a source for CNET, the company would purportedly have a new 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab variant in store for the gathering. Other than a dual-core processor, the informant was short on details. When asked, Samsung had said that "nothing has been heard" about a tablet, although that didn't directly constitute a denial.
The rumor is unconfirmed, although it has indirect support from Samsung itself. Its May 3 event is titled as Samsung Mobile Unpacked, a general event rather than a one-device gathering. Typically, Samsung has used its Unpacked events to unveil more than one device, such as the Galaxy S II and original Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Samsung has likewise been teasing major hardware plans and showing off both a 2GHz Exynos chip and 2560x1600 display that it has strongly hinted are due in an upcoming tablet, whether a new Galaxy Tab or Galaxy Note. Production for the dual-core, ARM Cortex-A15 Exynos is slated to begin in the spring and could dovetail with the May event.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 is already believed to be undergoing revisions to make it more competitive with the new iPad, although talk has been of a lower-clocked, quad-core chip.
