Samsung S-Cloud rumored back on, more universal than iCloud

Samsung's once thought frozen parallel to iCloud, informally known as S-Cloud, could still be on tap for the Galaxy S III launch. A claim emerging late Friday from Korea's Maeil Business claimed that it would have at least 5GB of space, but would supposedly be more universal. It purportedly would serve as a general storage space where Apple prefers it for syncing either specific OS-level or developer-specified content.There would also be a professional content tie-in, with a mix of free and paid content like movies and TV, although how this would be different from Samsung's Media Hub wasn't apparent. Microsoft was believed to be collaborating, although it would most likely be just to provide the back-end infrastructure rather than something facing the user.

Samsung hasn't confirmed the plans.

If it goes live, the service wouldn't help Samsung shake allegations that it uses Apple as at least a starting point for its technology development. The rumor does contradict earlier claims that Samsung might instead revert to third-party services, however, and it's not guaranteed that any cloud service will show along with the next-generation Galaxy on May 3. Samsung already had some Internet services through the Media Hub, Readers Hub, and other components, but these are more one-way stores than true cloud services.
