Following the release of the new iPad, Pingdom began testing how the addition of the Retina display would affect web browsing. To take full advantage of the new display web designers must update the graphics used on their pages with higher resolution versions. On Apple's own website this update has resulted in the total page size rising from 502 kB to 2.13MB, an increase of 324 percent. When applied to the average web page size of 1.1 MB, this percentage jump indicates that some sites could jump in size to upwards of 5 MB.
