Livestream is taking preorders for its budget HD video encoder, the Livestream Broadcaster. The small red hardware encoder lets users encode HD video and broadcast live via the New Livestream service, requiring a video feed, three AA batteries and an internet connection to operate.Although the Livestream Broadcaster can be used in a static location, using a network connection and wall power, its small enough to be mounted onto a camera for on-the-move live encoding when used with batteries and either a Wi-Fi connection or USB 3G/4G modem. Video is captured through HDMI at 480i, 720i and 1080i; audio input comes through HDMI audio or line in, and both are encoded in realtime to H.264 video and AAC audio at up to 2.3Mbps.
Control of the 4.8in by 3in by 1.25in box can be performed on its OLED display or optionally the Livestream for Producers iPhone app (App Store).
The Livestream Broadcaster will ship on May 31 and is priced at $495 including a 3-month trial of the $45 per month New Livestream service.
