(Updated with security fixes) Apple has released a minor maintenance update for iOS devices. Versions 5.1.1 is said to improve reliability when using the HDR photography option from the lock-screen shortcut, while an iPad-specific tweak is designed to enable the device to properly switch between 2G and 3G networks.Other bugfixes reportedly address issues that affect AirPlay video playback, misleading "unable to purchase" alerts after a successful purchase, and syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List.

The update arrives two months after the company released iOS 5.1, which brought a variety of improvements including Japanese Siri support, iPad voice dictation, the lock-screen camera shortcut, and a redesigned camera app for the new iPad, among other features.

iOS 5.1.1 is now available directly from iTunes for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Update: A handful of security holes have also been patched. These include one allowing URL spoofing in Safari, and two WebKit vulnerabilities. The first permitted cross-site scripting attacks, while the second involved memory corruption, allowing arbitrary code execution.
