iOS 6 expected to share new features in Mountain Lion

01updated 11:47 am EDT, Mon June 4, 2012 iCloud Tabs, Mail VIPs among upgrades

OS X Mountain Lion will not only include several features from iOS 5, but also features that will appear in iOS 6, according to sources for 9to5Mac. One of these is something called iCloud Tabs, which lists Safari tabs opened elsewhere, whether in iOS 6 or on a Mac. From this list, people will be able to pick tabs to reopen. On the iPhone and iPod touch the option button is said to be hidden behind the Bookmarks toolbar.iOS 6 will also reportedly get access to Mountain Lion's Mail VIP feature. This puts stars next to messages from a selected group of people, letting users identify the most important email in their inbox. VIPs should sync between iOS 6 and Mountain Lion via iCloud.

A third carryover is said to be Mountain Lion's "Do Not Disturb." This quickly toggles alerts and banner notifications, which can be especially useful when a person needs to concentrate or fall asleep. While the Mountain Lion option is located in the Notification Center, however, in iOS 6 users will need to delve into Settings to flip it on or off.

iOS 6 will likely make its first public appearance at WWDC 2012, which starts June 11th. One of the predominant highlights is expected to be a new Maps app, sporting 3D, a tweaked interface, and severed ties to Google.
